Dear Nathan,

I know you won't remember these first few weeks of life--and there are days I don't think I'll want to remember either.  It's so hard to figure out what's wrong and what you want when your only method of communication is crying!  I'm sorry when you cry for periods of time and it feels like Daddy and I aren't doing anything to help you.   Believe me we wrack our brains and try lots of things--but in the end sometimes letting you cry wins out.  One day you'll learn the phrase, "This is going to hurt me more than it hurts you".  Well that phrase is definitely true for us right now!  Screaming your head off from time to time might not hurt you but it hurts Mommy and Daddy when we've tried everything and nothing helps. We're sorry we don't know what to do sometimes--but we still love you!

Swaddle to Unswaddle

Every time we lay Nathan down we swaddle him tight so he won't startle himself since he doesn't have control of his arms and hands yet...

Every time we wake him up and unswaddle him his hand always immediately go straight up to stretch...it's so cute!!!

Dear Nathan,

Just so you know we don't throw all night parties in our home.  In actuality, nothing happens at all. As soon as the lights go out it's quite boring.  The dogs go to sleep.  Friends don't come over.  Even the shows on TV are boring, mostly infomercials. Now during the day--it's quite another story!  There's things to do and people to see!  All of your toys come out and play.  It's quite fun!  We just wanted to make sure you knew about the differences between night time and day time. Love you son!

5 weeks old!

Dear Nathan,

Well you've passed the one month mark!  And believe it or not you're still here so Daddy and Mommy must be doing an okay job!  :)  You are starting to get more control of your head.   Just today I was noticing how you are holding your head up when I burp you.  Good job baby!  Although you still don't like to go to sleep, you're getting much better and after a few fusses (and a few sshs from Mommy and Daddy) you're sleeping in your crib--most of the time...  One thing you LOVE is bath time!  You get so calm as we pour the warm water over you--I love it!  And after bath time your soft hair always gets frizzy and curly.  You are one handsome little man.  We love you very much Nathan!

Dear Nathan,

Every time you start to fall asleep in my arms you have this cute little smile/smirk.  I wish I could capture it on camera, but so far to date I haven't been able to.  It's probably considered gas vs. a smile at this point.  But it's still cute!  I love you!
